Location: Penitentiary IK-5, commonly known as Fire Island (Ognenny Ostrov), located on Lake Novozero, about 600 km north of Moscow, Russia.
History: Founded as a Russian Orthodox monastery in the 16th century by St. Cyril. After the 1917 Bolshevik Revolution, it was converted into a Gulag for state enemies. In 1994, it became a maximum-security prison for Russia's most dangerous criminals.
